New Medicare Items for Eating Disorders
At Rise, we are strong advocates for increased access and appropriate levels of support for complex mental health conditions. The Australian government has now announced a landmark change to accessing mental health by allocated 40 psychological sessions (instead of 10) and 20 dietician sessions per year to individuals diagnosed with an eating disorder. This comes in to effect in November 2019. Rise practitioners will be undertaking additional training on eating disorder treatment to welcome this change, which now allows for adequate support and evidence based treatment to be undertaken with these individuals.
